how I changed my relationship with food and what I eat now

Hi Fam, I'm excited to share with you how I transformed my relationship with food and what I eat now. Growing up, I had no real understanding of nutrition. All I knew was that some foods were considered "good" and others were considered "bad." The media and society taught me that I needed to follow a strict diet to lose weight, and if I didn't, then my current diet was not good enough.

It wasn't until I started my fitness journey that I began to learn about terms such as energy balance, macros, calorie deficit, and calorie surplus. I started by calculating my macros and using formulas to determine what my body needed to feel its best. But what I learned is that everyone's body is different, and what works for one person may not work for another.

So, I began to experiment and find what worked best for me. Through trial and error, I figured out a simple and basic three-step approach to nutrition that has helped me to maintain a healthy and balanced relationship with food.

The first step is to try to stick to eating balanced meals. I aim to have three larger meals during the day that consist of fats, carbs, and protein. I noticed that this helps me to feel full and satisfied for longer. For my first meal, I usually have oats because they are quick and easy to prepare. I add nuts, seeds, and nut butter to add some healthy fats to the meal. I also try to find nut butters that only contain nuts and no added sugars. This helps me to avoid unnecessary and unhealthy additives.

The second step is to try to stick to whole foods. I try to keep the bulk of my diet minimally processed, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. This does not mean that I never eat processed foods, but I try to keep them to a minimum.

The third step is to listen to my body. I pay attention to how certain foods make me feel mentally and physically. For example, I love practicing intermittent fasting, but some people may not enjoy it. It's important to find what works best for you and stick to it.

Through these three steps, I have found a simple and easy approach to nutrition that works for me. I have also tracked my macros in the past, which has given me a better understanding of the nutrients in different foods. But now, I can estimate pretty well what macros are in different dishes and make informed choices without tracking.

Changing my relationship with food has been a journey, but it has been worth it. I no longer feel guilty or ashamed for indulging in a treat, and I am more in tune with my body's needs. I hope my three-step approach can help others to find a balanced and healthy relationship with food as well. Remember, everyone's body is different, so find what works best for you and stick to it.
